The most populated part of Russia (the west / golden ring) are fairly warm due to jet streams. When I say fairly warm I mean somewhere between New York and Toronto's average climate. Sibera is cold, however the colder parts of Russia are less popular for a reason.

Yeah, that's totally true, but you have to admit that Russia still has pretty much the most heavily populated extreme cold climate. It's still not much, but it's more than elsewhere. Besides, the terrible cold in the Siberian winters gives a very good representation of vastness and loneliness.
