i always thought this guy was an asshole, cursing his son to the life of an jinchūriki. i understand why he did it but if i was naruto honestly the last thing i'd want to be would be the hokage, id want to distance my self from anything that had to do with konoha.

You have to keep in mind, when he did it he thought Naruto would be respected for the responsibility he held. As for Naruto's Hokage dream, that's one he's had since he was really young. An ambition to fulfill, something to keep fighting for. Without Konoha, Naruto would have nothing.

konoha also represents his father, since minato was the hokage. how could you not hate anything that had to do with the man who destroyed any chance for you to have a normal life. Garraa was a more realistic jinchūriki, at least in the begining

But that's why everyone was so surprised by Naruto. Especially Gaara. Because despite everything that's happened in his life, he still strives to be recognized for something good instead of the kyuubi. You have to look at Gaara as what might have happened to Naruto if he'd been a different person or if he'd never met Iruka.
