Does ANYONE know WHY the Linux Kernel is depicted as a bearded penguin sometimes? Does it have something to do with Japan?

Let's go over what is in this image.
The pengiun: The Linux Kernel itself, which uses a penguin as its logo
The beard and horns: The logo for GNU is a gnu/wildebeest (which generally heave beards)
The helmet, 'K' and Knees: Symbol of the KDE project, a desktop environment, which uses gears frequently in its art.
The spear: LILO and GRUB are bootloaders for GNU+Linux, while GCC is a compiler collection
The foot-tatoo: The tatoo is that of the GNOME project, another desktop environment.
The dicks: dpkg, rpm and portage are package managers for debian, redhat and gentoo, repsectively.
Hope this clears stuff up.
