God, this is why I hate Pokemon gamers. Always whining about petty shit like aesthetics, and never being patient enough to see what full potential these new starters have.

As it happens with every new generation introduced. Pathetic.

I guess the creators are finding it hard to come up with new pokemon ideas.

I think it fits well enough into the line of starter water types. Hell not ALL of the pokemon in the games have good designs anyway. Some are epicly awesome, and some aren't.

But god they all look so cute and blue in this picture. xD

Personally I disliked squirtle. Thought it looked weird. And Priplup. But I used both because they actually turned out to work well, same with some of the fire starters. Grass tends to be the same, holds the most promise aesthetically but turns out to have letdown moves and stats.

I actually warmed up to Tepig but this guy is taking me forever (if at all). I usually fall in love with them in the anime but that hasn't happened yet. It's weird and its evolutions are like "wtf".

Aesthetics is far from petty dododado, it is a very large part of the franchise. It is also the reason why the starter pokemon take so much longer to design than the others each generation, the designers want to make sure they look just right.
