Can anyone imagine getting is starter this way?
Entering the lab, talk with the professor about pokemon and not the pokedex and blablabla
Cmon we normally get the starter by accident then put him right in the ball

Gen 1... we got them legitimately without being attacked not including Yellow.
Gen 2... sent to Mr. Pokemon and Elm gave us mons for protection.
Meh.....

I'd say they were torn or something, and are just stylized.
But I'm still a teen, and I own at least two or three games from each gen, and I gotta say, I always felt bad for the starter left behind. I mean, what ever HAPPENED to the pokemon who never got picked? Did they just waste away, with no one to love them? Were they given to some young child who started his journey too late to receive one of his own choice, or did the professors keep them, giving them a family even if they couldn't fight? Did they ever wonder what the other two were off doing, so far away from home? Was this the fate of poor cyndaquil in my Original and soul silver versions? What of poor Squirtle, or Bulbasaur? And what about little Mudkip, whom I NEVER picked? Did they lead a full life, or did they just sit in the darkness of their pokeball, never knowing a trainer's love?

Thankfully, Bell will take the other starter for me, and I will never have to wonder about little Mijumaru, because I will know he is safe in a trainer's hands.
