Gardevoir, and Kirlia both are naturally loyal to their trainers, there was an instance in one of the Pokemon games where the Gardevoirs' master died and was reborn as a Pokemon; afterward, relearned his past through the tales of his old Gardevoir where he would beat her but she stayed by his side because she really loved him and hoped she could change him i think it was the first one of those Pokemon mystery dungeon serious, not sure but I DO remember that in the storyline

close. the trainer grabbed a ninetails' tails and ran while his gardevoir shielded him from the curse, and later he somehow becomes a gengar and is mildly aware of his story, but doesn't care anymore.
and yes, it was from the first two Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games (red team/blue team)
