Aizen needs to be killed eventually. And we'll probably get to see his bankai someday. If the poison does anything, it'll weaken him, with that shard stuck in his body.

Arrogance is a very large flaw. Aizen has arrogance in spades. He absolutely believes he is untouchable, so he stopped using common sense. He started being reckless. You can only tempt fate for so long. It's about time Aizen got knocked down a peg, no matter how small it might turn out to be.
