@ Anon 4: It cleary is biological. You'll notice the almost anemone like tentacles, which implies that this parasite, or whatever it is, is most likely some kind of amphibious lifeform. Whether it is sentient or simply responds to it's host's will like some kind of mindless symbiote isn't clear. Ocfourse it's possible that it's the other was around and that it infact controls the host, which would explain the lack of fear and her "dead" eyes.
