no its correct, i dont' get it either, it is cute, but rukias brother said that renji was like an ape and he was the moon. no matter how many times the ape tries to grab the moon it will always slip. a referance to an old saying where a baboon is trying to grab the reflection of the moon in a lake or something like that. but here he is portrayed as a dog which is confusing. i wonder why

I think its a take on the "why the wolf howls at the moon" story. A rabbit tricked a wolf and hid on the moon. The wolf howls at the moon in anger. So its a wolf trying to get to the rabbit on the moon

I always thought that Byakuya said that Renji was "A Mutt howling at the moon and that his fangs would never reach Byakuya."
So like Byakuya is the moon and he stole Rukia from Renji and now Renji's trying to get her back.
