It's what they do inside the temple you know. That's why they won't let outsiders come in; they're afraid yet another one of their rituals gets rejected by the general public. Their "eternal temple marriages" are sealed with intercourse in front of two or more "witnesses". They translate the bible more literally, especially the part about "and they will become one flesh". Although no one on this site would probably argue with THAT ritual. And polygamy wasn't all that bad of an idea back then either.
