I get the feeling Gainax has been trolling us after episode 1, and just when the show started to feel somewhat stale (mostly due to repetitive jokes involving either; sweets, vulgarity or sex) BAM: SURPRISE PLOT. yes, PSG actually has a plot.

As a final note: The soundtrack for this anime is genius. I'm definitely buying it if they release it in the west.
