They also had a 3-phase work out, where they'd do very heavy/extreme work-outs for like a month, then medium for another month, then very light/endurance ones next month. They were actually ahead of their time in regards to human anatomy and sports nutrition/physiology. That's why the Roman Legions were so god damn powerful...they teamed nutrition with exercise and military strategy to overwhelm other countries.
