say what you want.. that the pokemon anime sucks....for the most part i agree with you there, but the battle between ash and Paul was one of the most epic ones i've seen in Pokemon in awhile, and the animation was increadable.. but after this we'll probably go back to the lame old pokemon anime as it used to be -_-....

I honestly hope Paul doesn't fall into obscurity....

From what I've seen from BW, the old pokemon anime is mostly dead... so rejoice anon1!

As do I, Anon2. Guys, don't take this the wrong way, because I fucking love Gary, but... can we all agree that Ash and Paul's rivalry was like a thousand times more intense? They'd better bring this fucker back. He was a douchebag to the extreme but his presence provided exactly the burst of energy the show needed, and I can't wait to feel that happen again when he (hopefully) makes his cameo. Gary got one. Shit, Gary got SEVERAL. Paul should too.

From Diamond and Pearl forward the series has reached a new level of quality, Ruby/Sapphire and Battle Frontier were the low point of the series, since DP things have gotten much better...

^ That's helped in part by the villains. Team Galactic and Pokemon Hunter J didn't fuck around, judging from their motivations and the few episodes featuring them that I managed to watch. It helped giving a more serious tone in more episodes.

That and Paul, of course. In contrast to Ash (and most other characters in the show), he wasn't big on befriending his Pokemon or any such shtick at first. He was all about their sheer might above all else. Kind of like how many of us behave in the games, let's face it. The series really needed such characters for more interesting stuff happening.

Paul was, without a doubt, the best rival and one of the strongest characters on the show. He was cruel, mean and rude to Ash, because he seriously hated Ash. But he shows his more human side when he's dealing with Reggie. Also, you can tell that he's not completely without manners, because he's very respectful towards Cynthia, even after she owns him. His grudge and later respect towards Brandon shows that even Paul has his own insecurities, and that he really wants nothing more than to succeed. The way he trains his Pokemon is actually the way we train them in the game; putting them through test after test, battle after battle, all with the intention of getting stronger. He's a true, powerful character, and a perfect counterpart to childish Ash. Paul was an epic character, and I hope we get to see more of him (because frankly, Trip feels like a knock-off Paul...)

I seriously need to watch the Sinnoh League.

Anon5: Most people choose to completely neglected does qualities of Paul. Yes, he is still awake and keeps to himself and is rather rude to people who he thinks are weak. But there's never been a time when he didn't show respect to someone who was an adult. Also, if you're not completely wrapped up in hating him you will notice that the only one of his Pokemon he was so coarse with was Chimchar. Everyone else performed up to his expectations except Chimchar, therefore it got the most flack from him. Once Chimchar was off his team, he was nowhere near as bad.

I still can't get over the fact that [SPOILER] they pretty much reverse plot-armored Ash into a fight against Darkrai & Latios that cost him his chance at the cup.
