shotguns in videogames are portrayed quite inaccurately.

specifically in the notion that shotguns are inaccurate. as they are very much so, even at fairly long distances

shotguns can fire deer slugs, if it can fire a deer slug, you could load it with a projectile with a tail that self-spin stablizes, in a sabot round, so you could in theory use a scope on one.

According to what we see when looking one frame at a time, it looks more like a sniping rifle than a shotgun. And sniping rifle can sometimes be used at close range, if you are sure to have the surprise effect on your side. ;)

It very well could be an electronic point sight, which are used on shotguns quite often.
