Anyways, the difference between "maybe" and "I dunno" is that "maybe" hints at a chance, while "I dunno" is pure ignorance. Getting "maybe" as a response makes them feel "Oh, yay! It might happen!", while "I dunno" would probably just make them feel "Oh. I'll ask someone else then." or "Oh. -disappointment-".
TL;DR "I dunno" doesn't work as well.
