The only upside of Yuusei not getting married (if you can call it an upside) is that Sherry and Rua (future) could compete for him. But alas, I do wish this was the real ending though, it was still good closure, unlike GX's walk in the sunset thing.

You expected something like this in a Yugioh series? It wont happen... at least for now.
But, the last episode was good: they hold hands, stare at each others eyes, Yusei said how Aki's smile is the BEST IN THE WORLD (something you say to the one you like, not a friend), their fingers still touched for a while when they separed, all while a romantic song plays in the background. Thats the farthest one MAIN pairing have gone, more than Azuka/Judai of Anzu/Yugi. Yusei is the man: he actually got the girl, even if the girl have to go to somewhere to archive her dreams. But she will be back.
Besides... why would Aki close her eyes when they were starring at each other? Thats something you do when you are about to get kissed and you SEE the other one is getting near. Maybe they didn't kiss on-screen, but they do off-screen. Probably Im just overanalizing it, but it could happed.
Anyway, im satisfied by the ending... just hope the extendend ending they will release later will bring them together.
