Where are you getting that she's German? The character designer said she's of British and Japanese parentage, and, as far as I remember, the movie doesn't reveal any details about her.

Asuka is German/Japanese and Mari is British/Japanese. Although someone said Asuka is German/Japanese/American. But that is a lie. Asuka is the result of what would have happened if the Axis had won the war.
