@Dragonsthorn: It's not a sniper rifle, either. It's an anti-tank rifle. Which is apparently a lot less powerful than Haruko's bass guitar, which is the only thing that *did* damage Canti in any significant way.
It's also the obligatory big gun that does absolutely nothing to damage its robot target ever in any episode of any Gainax series ever made.
