Sort of reminds me of the nordic folklore myths about the "skogsrå" ("forest rå", rå has no proper translation in this case).
It is a beautiful woman when seen from the front and will try to lure men away, usually hunters and wood cutters who spend a lot of time alone in the woods, but if you manage to see her back it breaks the enchantment because she either has a tail, or her back looks like a tree (details vary depending on where you go).
