I used to sell guitars and amps... Marshall's solid state amps are pretty ghetto ass in terms of tone. Much like Gibson does with guitars, they put a markup on the amp just because of the name. Any time someone wanted to look at an MG15, I'd try to steer them to a Peavey Rage or Blazer, much better tone and less expensive. Fender's entry level solid state amps are not good sounding either, but they at least don't charge as much as Marshall does and they have a decent clean sound. Another great little amp I got hooked on was the Roland Micro Cube, it's super cheap, has effects AND amp modeling, and can run on batteries and even has a shoulder strap and a built in tuner.
