This is what Torterra is based on, the World Turtle.

Once upon a time, when scientist proposed that the world is round and Earth is a sphere, an old lady objected and said,

"The world is situated on the giant turtle."

The scientist smiled and asked her back, "What does the turtle stand on then?"

"Another turtle." The old lady replied.

"And what does the other turtle stand on then?"

"Another turtle. And it goes on." The old lady argued.
