While I see your point (and voted you up), I think I get why people ask about the episodes. If they don't know much about the series they probably just want to know how far into the series they need to watch before they get to "the good stuff".

There's that, and also sometimes we don't have time to watch an entire series just for the occasional ecchi scene, some series aren't worth watching but skipping to these scenes is nice.
And also, sometimes we've already seen the series but don't remember which scenes happened in which episodes and don't want to have to watch the entire series a second time to find out.
