Whenever Akane is exposed to a large body of water, or any water at all where her feet doesn't reach the bottom, her body undergoes a weird, poorly understood reaction and becomes heavier than lead, thus removing all her floatation capabilities.

This mysterious phenomena disallows for swimming of any sort, and not even four balloon rings will suffice. Put simply, she'll sink like a rock.
