Believe it or not, ankles actually do have articulating joints that separate the foot from the leg itself. Otherwise walking would be impossible.

believe it or not, these joints also have limits, witch this breaks. two, who really just stands around like that? three, the articulating is coming from somewhere around mid shin here.
