It's Asura's master Augus. This is no father and son fight, it's a master VS pupil.
To know who is winning you need to look at the red bar below that fills up, when it fills up press R2 for PS3 owners/RT-for Xbox360 owners to burst and Asura will do a powerful attack and a series of QTE will occur till you get to finish off Augus.
