Actually, I'm pretty sure there's a way to do it without joining the covenant. You just have to walk past him WITHOUT talking to him when you see him after the Centipede Demon... I hear that way you can avoid triggering his transformation.

Well, I just beated the game and I just didn't talk to him in anytime and didnt have to kill him. That worked.

Well solaire never goes crazy in my game, after I see him in lost izalith( the depressed solaire ) he return to the undead parish And I never join to the chaos covenant.
