Sakuma looks so much fucking better in shorts; also, this outfit can be seen in the anime's opening sequence but she never wears it outside of it.

I think the author deliberately decided to have the female lead be kind of plain but later decided a little sex appeal couldn't hurt, which is why she wears more fetching clothes later on.
