Ahhhhhh, the memories are flooding back now! This and Breath of Fire 3 (or was it 2, on the SNES) were 2 of my all time favourite RPGS back in the day!

The fire is coming from the gun, indicating the use of flame thrower, which is pretty much going to be learned at that point in the game, no matter what you do, unless you just avoid every fight you can, which just means you wouldn't win this one, anyway.
