Y'know, when you compare them, it's pretty obvious...

Axel, Roxas, and Xion took the forms of Terra, Ventus, and Aqua whenever they were created.
Though Roxas and Ventus are pretty obvious. Roxas is an exact duplicate, just with different clothes. And two badass keyblades instead of one.

Actually, as upper Anon says, Axel is actually Lea's Nobody, while Roxas and Xion are part of the memories of Sora's heart. Roxas was created when Sora became a Heartless in KHI and looks like Ven because his heart fused with Sora's sometime in the story; while Xion is the enbodiment of Sora's memories of Kairi.
