I'm going to go with the fact that This version of Red is mad that more people choose to play as Blue rather than him, but doesn't realize it's because people prefer his old design and not the fact that it's just people like Blue... which is also true since no one got to play as her till Fire Red/Leaf Green... but this is just my guess so take it as you will.
