Sachi was indeed a nice girl. But she'd never be able to follow Kirito. Asuna would much rather die supporting Kirito, physically as well as mentally, than stay behind and survive. Sachi's death was tragic, but necessary, otherwise noone would have ever beaten SAO.

By that logic, Lisbeth and Silica should both have had to die or no one would have beaten SAO. Black Cats were working hard to try to get to clearing status - might the time penalty of Kirito helping them eventually have turned into a net gain of having a new close-knit guild on the front lines? Might Sachi have eventually undergone - and this concept may terrify and confuse you - character growth spurred by newfound inspiration courtesy of Kirito? It was a great story moment delivered very well, but the game COULD have been beaten if Black Cats had survived - it'd just be a different story.
