The game is still a Japanese copyright, regardless,of where it is released first. So the original names are indeed Asuka and Domino.

As I recall, the official reason is because that's how Danborru does it.

Personally, my justification for it is that Pokemon aren't really characters, but rather species specific to the series. The series-specific aspect qualifies them for the character category, but we still use the English names, just like we do for animals that appear in a picture.
