Its not about who "deserves". Asuka makes shinji feel like shit. And shinji makes asuka feel belittled somehow. Asukas a bitch and shinjis a pushover.

My point here is NOT to bash on them, it is that if one wouldwant these characters to change for the better, they need someone besides eachother.

Misato should put her other matters aside and focus on them.

Honestly the real tragedy is that Kaworu never got to spend prolonged time with Asuka or anyone else.(referencing the manga).

The way he can remain calm and explain things, see into the truth of things, Asuka could really open up to him. Not even as a couple, at least as a confidant. Through the 16th angel he even opened Rei's eyes to her own emotions (again, read the manga)
