Raises the question: If that is Red's Electrode, is the "return" range on the pokeball further than the radius of the explosion/self-destruct?
With question raising a second question, why do we have explosion AND self-destruct as seperate moves?

self destruct is the one the glows before exploding. Explosion is instant KABOOM. Also self destruct is detonation for electric types while explosion covers everything not electric.

Self Destruct Self always annihilates the user in order to deal damage.
Explosion doesn't.
Self Destruct is generally weaker then Explosion except when Normal types use it.
And Normal types cannot learn Explosion if I remember correctly.
