Anon4 while this is anime, the fact that there were ever alive or not is not the point, the fact is whether or not they are animated dead bodies with a vine shoved through their digestive system or bodies on the verge of death. While anime is anime and said characters of anime are alive or not, anime does follow logic to a degree especially when it comes to death(with the exception of Goku who just can't seem to stay dead)
