In regards to the "reality" of the image, its good that she's getting some sort of help, as she obviously desperately needs it.

However, the way he's grinning/showing off to the media/world about it makes me want to punch the guy. In that respect, he's degrading her by treating her plight like a spectacle. And the artist did a good job on her face. Her stare makes the poor girl really look.. broken.

Combined with the comment Jedi/Floater posted, the point is pretty obvious.

The girl in this image is little more than a tool for the politician(?); he could not care less about her actual well-being, seeing as he's giving her a rather useless tiara (looks good on TV, though!), in place of food, water, clothing, or shelter. His only real goal here is to get the attention of and appeal to the masses and media surrounding him to show off how "selfless and thoughtful" he is, presumably for some other selfish goal.

It's kind of a dual commentary on corruption and how the public perceives individuals performing "great acts of kindness," even if the end result of the act is useless or even detrimental to the person on the receiving end. But by the time that becomes obvious, it's already mostly forgotten, and the only memory is that someone did a "good thing" for someone else.

But that's just my take on it. Regardless, it's really an amazingly well done piece of art.

I have to say to the artist of this great job on this pic. I had to take a step back and look at the image again to understand it. The guy seem to be doing some charity for the girl, but given the fact they smiling and posting for the cameras/crowd shows that his actions not true charity as it is not a virtuous act but a selfish one. And underpinning this tiara itself, although a nice gift it is completely pointless and useless to the girl herself. It doesn't help her imminent problems (hunger, health, shelter, education, protection) nor does it helps with the underlying reasons of why she is alone poor on the streets in the first place.

The other part of this being the crowd and town itself as no one else seem you even care about her and seem to be more focused on guy. As most people would see something like this on the news and think it is a nice story but at the same time don't think any more about it or feel moved enough to try and help themselves. Meaning that the world's focus is completely on the wrong things/person.

There are few more things about this I can say but I think my post is too long as is.

Surprised none of you deep thinkers noted that the amazingly generous benefactor, who's doing his best to make sure everyone sees, is giving the girl who doesn't even have clothes on her back a pretty crown. Something totally useless to her and clearly just for looks.

That's already been noted. At least twice. Would you actually read the comments before saying something like that? :P

I'd go with "hypocrisy" and "conspicious charity".
