Mia came right out at the end of the game and said she'd concluded Ghaleon was in love with Althena... which is why he was so pissed off at her and Dyne for taking her divinity away. When she was changed into Luna it didn't just take away the goddess he'd based all his faith on... it destroyed the woman he loved, and he resented Dyne deeply for it. His goal was to reawaken the goddess in Luna's body and get 'his' Althena back, with the secondary goal of usurping her power for himself so she could never do something like that again. Even after Alex killed him he was still convinced he'd at least returned things to the way they used to be, and in his belief, how they were SUPPOSED to be.
