Oh man, I don't know if I should be happy or afraid. I'm all for the equal rights, letting women do what they want to do, etc. It's just that it's kind of weird seeing a topless woman outside of the internet....

sillykwilly, I'd recommend you to get a girlfriend to get used to the sight of a topless woman.

Seeing your girlfriend topless is one thing, but seeing a random topless woman in plain public is another.

I actually live in New York and I'm a woman, and I've never heard of this being legalized.

Honestly, with some of the people out there, you DO NOT want everyone running around topless. Trust me. A quick trip to a water park where everyone is scantily clad will tell you why.

Also, I don't think I, personally, would walk around topless, legal or not, even if wearing a bra when it's 100+ degrees outside is a fate worse than death.

It's New York State, not just NYC. I think it was first upheld in Buffalo. It's nothing new (Since 1992) and the idea is spreading. It basically just allows women to go topless in any environment where a man may be topless for equality reasons. "The enforced concealment of women's breasts reinforces cultural obsession with them, contributes toward unhealthy attitudes about breasts by both sexes and even discourages women from breastfeeding their children." - (Summery of court decision.)

What Zalrun says apples to guys too but few people practice this anyways. While I don't doubt many stares will be had from the guys, proponents tend to get hassled more by other women (and in other states by the police) then by men with nasty intentions. Most states don't really care if a girl under 13 goes topless in most public places so most Pokemon girls are probably good-to-go anyways.

I'm more surprised by the different attitudes of Americans on different coasts having such varied policies. In California it's illegal to breastfeed in public but in New York it's illegal to deny a woman this right. Hard to believe they're part of the same country.

TLDR: Europeans who don't give a damn are shaking there heads.

Well, thing is, while there is Federal Law, there is also State Law.
Basically, all 50 states are more or less like their own country.

For instance, California has absolute shit laws on guns, while Texas and Alaska has fantastic ones.
