Well anon, the astro was one of the very few RWD vans that weren't truck based vans (I'm 99% sure the astro was a unibody, like a sedan, while the express and savana are both body on frame--silverado based). if i'm driving a minivan (which i would classify this van as), i'd prefer it to be rwd is possible. but this begs the question, why are the goodyear drag radials on the front wheels??? maybe this one's an AWD i guess ;)
while this van was definitely not the best one available at the time, i will also tell you that the chevy astro had a surprisingly big "cult" following in japan, yeah, JAPAN of all places. look it up. so that being said, maybe that's why they chose this van.
