I've been to plenty of conventions, and the vast majority of the cosplayers I've seen have been an average weight, or close to it. I'm not even talking about people competing in cosplay contests- I'm talking about the average people who walk around the convention floor. Regular people. People who don't look like this.

There were a handful of rather overweight girls in short skirts, but they were a minority, not a majority, and in no way representative of the average.

Sadly I can attest there's nowhere near enough fat girls cosplaying at conventions... Such a pity to me. :(
