It's a type of cognitive bias where, because one is normal, they assume that what they like is normal. In situations like this one, this bias is likely reaffirmed by confirmation bias as well.

And then they go ahead and use their strongly reinforced biases to create a projection bias. So the process is like this:

I'm normal -> what I like is normal -> I've seen a couple examples of this in real life so it must be true -> since my opinion is normal, you must be abnormal for disagreeing with me.

In reality, however, it's outlandishly unlikely for someone not to have an opinion or trait that is outside of the norm. It's important to remember that just because you may be normal, that does not mean that all of your preferences are.

Oh, by the way, this is actually aimed at both of you.
