Gardevoir was one of the first megas ever confirmed, and Mawile is one of the last. I guess it's something like 'Look! I got mega too!'

There's another possibility, there are many pics in the internet making gardevoir and mawile a couple, and after they mega evolve, gardevoir's mega resembles a bit a wedding dress, so then mawile would be extremely surprised and willing to marry gardevoir.
