I think FFXIII as a series would have been better received if it was not labeled FF. The games are enjoyable enough, but they lack the 'heart' (for lack of a better word) that made the other FF games special

I don't know. I think most FF are like XIII. Its just now they are fully voiced whereas you could imagine how they were saying it in the older games. After watching Advent children and going to play FFVII there was a huge difference in how they sounded, to myself at least.
