@The art overall isn't too different from the original. It's just now occasionally the characters look a little derpier than normal. I guess that can be considered a downgrade.

@leatherhead gonna have to agree with anon 3 the art looks the same for the most part but they do have a A-1 pictures and Bridge animate it instead of A-1 and statelight so that clearly has affected the art to some degree.
but get your facts straight it was never cancelled, they did the smart thing and went on a break to avoid fillers, Mashima himself said that it wasn't the end of the anime (at 175 episodes) and said that it definitely will come back. if was truly cancelled then it wouldn't of come back regardless of what the author wanted like groove adventure rave now that was cancelled.
i hate the fact as it was the first long running fighting anime to go on a break to avoid fillers everyone just assumed it was cancelled, seriously it was the best solution as people are sick of fillers.

The art style after the hiatus of the show is supposed to be more similar looking to the manga which is why it looks different.

True the art did seem a bit sloppy for the first two episodes or so of part two but it seems as though the animators have got their shit together finally.
