Actually in traditional mythology, kitsune often appeared as beautiful young women who seduced young nobles. Also, when you're that big, you will have an extremely deep voice to a normal sized human.

I want you to think about something for a second: What does Youruichi's voice sound like when she's in her cat form? If you follow the same line of thought as me, you really can't judge gender by the animal form's voice.
