She didn't die though. The aldnoah drives on the Deucalion shut down though. Later in the episode it is revealed that Inaho is adopted, and that the pilot of the kataphract in the tanegashima report is actually his mother, who had lost her memory as a Countess of the Vers empire and lived as a human.

Actually she does die. She is resuscitated by Inaho via CPR soon after, though.

That scene gave me a raging boner.
