I'm sure if Nintendo made Metal Mario and Pink Gold Peach a boss in one of the near future games some complaints about them appearing in spin offs would lessen a bit.

Well...Metal Mario was a mid-boss in the Super Smash Bros. series (64 and Melee), so there's that.
