I don't think the elf is a mythological being, since there is no record of any story before Tolkien's Lord of the Rings talking about elves.

And since mythology is tied to religion than you can't say "it's tolkien mythology" then. Elves are just a part of fiction and the subculture of fantasy, not part of any mythology.
