Maybe not so for some of the other girls, but definitely this girl.
Her whole purpose was to just be all wide eyed and adoring of the MC character and to die right at the end of the very episode she's introduced in.

^^I kind of had the same problem with Shingeki no Kyojin or any other cannon fodder series, I really liked the artstyle of SnK and animation was superb, but 80% of character were basically created so that they can be killed to try and make it look oh-so-dramatic.
