Heh, I do believe some Muslims do fit that bill, just like some Christians actually are pretty open to new things, homosexuality, abortion etc etc.
However if human history has taught me anything its that religion has been mankind's biggest excuse to inflict violence and suffering on one another.
If you start digging into any strongly held human religious faith sooner or later you're gonna start finding dead bodies and the horrors people will do to each other in the name of a divine calling of some sort or another. I don't think religions can fully function without the so called heathens, heretics, blasphemers, infidels, pagans etc etc, to be around for the "faithful" to either look down on in arrogant disgust or outright crush because its their holy duty to do so.
Call me a cynic but I don't think there is a major human religion out there that doesn't have fair amount of blood on its hands.

Deranged people will find excuses or reasons. Be it religion or politics or even a soccer game. Don't worry about it that much, it's the people you fear, not the religion. I feel sorry for all the gods, prophets, saviours etc. out there as someone will or already did inevitably use them as such.
